Offers a research stay from September to November 2026

Visiting Fellowship Call 2024 / IH SAS

The Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences is pleased to offer fellowships for scholars from outside Slovakia, lasting one to two months within the period between September and November 2026.

We welcome applications from scholars of all career stages engaged in innovative historical or interdisciplinary research. The fellowship provides an opportunity to collaborate with a leading institution for historical research in Slovakia and to connect with the Institute’s experts working in a wide range of fields, including political, social, cultural, and economic history, covering periods from the early medieval era to the present.

There are no restrictions regarding historical period or geographical focus; however, preference will be given to projects related to the themes outlined in the strategic research plan of the IH SAS. We particularly encourage applications from scholars with a strong interest in Central and Eastern Europe.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must have completed a PhD or equivalent by the application deadline and must not be citizens of Slovakia.

Application Deadline:

  • 31 May 2026

What to Submit:

  • A project proposal (up to 1000 words), outlining the research project, its objectives and methodology, its relevance to the applicant’s broader research agenda, and how a stay at the Institute of History SAS would support the proposed research. • A CV including a list of the applicant’s most important scholarly publications

Applications should be submitted electronically via email to: visiting.fellows@savba.sk

Notification of results: Applicants will be informed about the outcome of the selection process by 30 June 2026

The Institute Offers:

  • Free accommodation in an apartment in Bratislava (near the National Archives).
  • Workspace at the Institute.
  • Access to the Central Library of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the University Library in Bratislava, the largest research libraries in Slovakia, both holding one of the finest collections of historical works in the country.
  • friendly and collaborative working environment, with opportunities to participate in the Institute’s activities and develop long-term individual and institutional cooperation.
