Anotácia projektu: More than half of all existing buildings in Slovakia were built after the Second World War. Thousands of medical, educational, cultural, recreational, sports and commercial buildings from that period still make up the majority of all public amenities. They also represent an important part of the country’s cultural heritage. Yet they have not been given the attention they deserve and are threatened by insensitive redevelopment and demolition. The project will identify the extent, structure and degree of preservation of the architecture of the 1960s and 1970s, deepen knowledge of the individual works and specify the values that should be the subject of conservation. In this context, a new evaluation method will be developed and a digital database of 20th century architecture in Slovakia will be restructured. The result will be a set of the most significant works of post-war modernism in Slovakia, which will serve as a basis for protection and listing as national cultural monuments.

Anotácia projektu: The goal of the project is to explore the impact of nationalist mobilisation and discourses on the Slovak-speaking non-elite rural population during the dualist period of the Kingdom of Hungary. Focusing on the decades between the 1880s and 1910s, and centred on four specific regions in the northern part of the kingdom, the project aims to provide a complex examination of the nature of the Slovak speaking rural population’s indifference to national mobilisation and its alleged ignorance of politics. The project will analyse nationalist discourses, their presence, appropriation, adaptation and exclusion in rural settings. It will examine various types of social and institutional settings and historical events, such as rallies, elections, protests, conventions, interactions with authorities and nationalist activists, instances of both benevolent and violent interventions by the representatives of state power, and forms of collective organisation and resistance. Furthermore, it will assess the agency of various actors, both institutional and non-institutional, including individual members of the rural communities under investigation.
